Alex started studying drums at 13 years old. Having found his passion, he continued his music education at Newcastle College, and then The Academy Of Contemporary Music, Guildford. He completed his BMus in 2016, graduating with first class honors.

Alex then began teaching drums privately, as well as for music schools, such as DK Music Academy & British School of Rock. He also began recording and performing across the UK with various acts and original projects, including recording sessions with Grammy Award winning producer Liam Nolan at Metropolis Studios in London. Alex also continued to work on his Youtube channel "AlexBlackDrums", posting covers, lessons, transcriptions and playthroughs, which currently has over 350,000+ views collectively.

 

He is currently recording and touring with progressive metal band “Giant Walker” who have picked up coverage with the likes of Rolling Stone, Planet Rock, BBC, Louder Sound/Prog Magazine and many other respected publications.

Alex joined us at Windows Music Academy in October 2021. His approach to teaching is to achieve practical, productive and fun lessons, covering a wide range of music genres and keeping in mind the important topics such as theory, reading and overall technique. He teaches both the Rockschool & Trinity syllabuses and other key areas. Students of all ages and abilities are welcome. He holds an up-to-date enchanced DBS certificate.
